Why remove it
- A photo can carry the exact coordinates of where it was taken. That can be your home or your workplace.
- The device and lens name, and the date and time, are stored alongside it.
- Once it is online that information travels with the photo, and it is hard to take back.
Questions
- Where does this information come from?
- Cameras and phones write it when they save the photo. It is called EXIF, and most devices have it on by default.
- Does removing it hurt quality?
- Saving as PNG keeps the quality exactly. JPEG is re-compressed, so keep the quality high.
- Is my photo uploaded?
- No. Reading it and removing it both finish inside this browser.
